In the field of medicine one of the most under rated professions is the position of the CNA. This career field is one of the front lines when it comes to healthcare. Working right under the license of the RN a CNA is the right arm of the RN. The schooling to get your CNA is just 8 weeks. Which is incredible because the pay is lucrative. Some job positions in California boast 28-31 dollars an hour with overtime pay incentives. Many CNA’s work 24 hour shifts which means big time over time pay.
CNA’s often work in Specialized Nursing Facilities or work as in home care health aides. The specialized nursing facilities pay more but are much harder on the CNA. Specialized nursing facilities often allow a CNA to work up to 8 beds. This can be a substantial amount of work for the CNA. The more preferred job is a Home Health Nursing Agency. This allows the CNA to work on a single patient at 24 hour shifts. This is a much preferred job position and work pace. Another way to find work is to find your own clients. Often people post the need for CNA’s on websites like Craigslist.org and care.com. This is a way to find your own work and often you can get better pay. The at home nursing care businesses charge a lot of money to put CNA’s in a home 24/7. By offering your care you can cut cost of care for your client substantially as well as earn higher pay.
Where should I get certified? CNA Certification steps can be found on cnacertification.org. Its important to know what to do to become certified and which steps you’ll need to follow for certification. Then we recommend finding the cheapest and fastest nurse aide program available. The test is not considered terribly hard. You should still do your home work. Truth is the best education you can get is from your local Junior College. These are good educational facilities that offer financial aide to students. With a little luck you can get your whole program paid for, or at least greatly reduced in price.
My father worked in every aspect of the CNA career field. He started out at a specialized nursing facility. He said that was just too hard on him. Then he switched to being a home health aide. He was way happier there. He very much enjoyed what he did for a living. The pay was great and he got to help people. He retired after doing that for a number of years and received a good solid retirement income.
So yes this is a good career field. With good pay. And with a high satisfaction.
