A dentist is a person who has received their Doctorate in either Dental Surgery (DDS) or their Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) and has also met all the local and state licensing requirements. The career of a dentist is dedicated to increasing the health and well-being of their patients in matters regarding the teeth, gums and conditions involving the mouth. As a medical professional, a dentist can work in a variety of environments and facilitate multiple career functions. Once licensed, a dentist can diversify their concentrations and focus on areas in which they are interested. A dentist can work in a public health setting, a private practice or within a dental group.
